About Synoptic Sounds

Synoptic Sounds is an audio production and publishing company, currently based in Northern California, USA. Owned by Lloyd Minthorne, Synoptic Sounds began in 1984, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as a small project studio, helping local musicians record and produce their music. In 1987, Lloyd re-located to the San Francisco Bay area to attend the “College for Recording Arts”, and further his career in the music industry. After graduating Magna Cum Laude, he has been in high demand around the Bay area as an audio engineer, composer, producer, arranger, & sound designer for numerous recording studios, theaters, film producers, and performing artists. The Synoptic Sounds recording studio has since grown into a state-of-the-art recording facility, utilizing some of the newest technologies in the audio field. Synoptic Sounds continues to grow and expand it’s services and creative possibilities by embracing new technologies, and ever-expanding the scope of it’s services. Future plans include video production, expanded publishing and marketing services, and performing research on the effects of various sounds upon the human mind and body.
The word “synoptic” means “characterized by, or affording a comprehensive view”. This title was chosen because it represents the underlying philosophy of this company: to understand, or to see clearly! It is important in any working relationship to understand the intentions or motivation underlying the visible or audible results. If this is understood, then there is a more cohesive effort among the participants, and the outcome reflects this. Also, it is important to understand the technology used in any given project, in order to more effectively bring it from conception into reality in an efficient way, and to not let the technology impede the creative process, but to enhance it and to expand the possibilities beyond what the artist had originally conceived. Synoptic Sounds seeks to fully understand whatever project you are involved in, and help bring it to life in a bigger, better and more efficient way than you ever dreamed possible.
Synoptic Sounds currently offers the following products and services:

Lloyd’s Music Biography

At the age of 5, Lloyd began his music training with private piano
lessons. A year later, his teacher recommended him for the “Progressive
Series Theory Text”, an honor given to only a few students, and for the next
five years, he studied classical music theory. Lloyd also played the
trumpet, and quickly excelled to first chair status in the school band, then
went on to win first place in the Colorado Music Grade School Solo
Festival. During college, he performed as a keyboardist and vocalist in
several different original rock bands, including “The Color Codes”,
“Kozmosis”, “Underground”, and “Beat Red”. He also studied guitar, flute,
voice, bass and drums. This working knowledge of many different
instruments, greatly enhanced his performance and composition skills.
In 1987, Lloyd attended the “College For Recording Arts”, in San
Francisco, CA, graduating magna cum laude! His coursework included
Audio Engineering, Music Production, Studio Electronics, Music Law,
Synthesizer Principles, Sound Reinforcement, and Audio Visual Production.
While still at CRA, Lloyd was offered employment from some of his
instructors who owned recording studios in the Bay area. Lloyd soon
found himself in high demand as a freelance audio engineer, all the while
expanding his knowledge and equipment. Lloyd joined the Audio
Engineering Society in 1988, and has attended many seminars and
conventions in order to stay current with the rapidly changing field of audio
engineering.
Lloyd is presently involved in the music industry in many capacities:
1. As an Audio Engineer, doing sound reinforcement for musical groups,
theater productions, and public speakers, as well as doing studio and live
recordings. 2. As a Composer, writing music for Radio, Television, Film,
and Theater Productions. 3. As a Producer & Arranger for numerous
recording artists, who need basic compositions transformed into finished
products. 4. As a Performer, primarily on keyboards and vocals, but also as
a multi-instrumentalist. 5. As a Publisher, with the release of “Doorway To
a Dream” in 1984, and “Just Visiting Planet Earth” in 1999.
His company, Synoptic Sounds, founded in 1984, has grown into a
magnificent, state-of-the-art audio production facility, utilizing some of the
newest audio technology. Lloyd has also begun research which uses
biofeedback technology to measure, delineate, and assess the effects of
various sounds on the human mind and body. Lloyd’s vision is to create a
positive impact on millions of people’s lives, using his devoted talents and
state-of-the-art technology.
